This was our Resolution meeting, during which we discussed the motion: “Failure to Care – Assessment of Need in Long Term Care” The WI requests the government to ensure that health needs and social needs are assessed and funded together, rather than at the present, where health needs are funded by the NHS and social needs are funded by Social services. This results in a lack of continuity and many people not receiving appropriate care. We had a lively debate, but in the end it was decided to leave the vote to the discretion of our delegate at the AGM, as she will be able to listen to keynote speakers. After the debate social time, including two quizzes, and refreshments was enjoyed by members.

June was our 35th Birthday meeting and was attended by guests from the other Wis in our group and also by Marion Rose our Chairman and past Chairmen. Our speaker has been a guide at Brogdale and told us how she had been to India tohelp fruit farmers there. After refreshments Marion and Gillian, our president cut the lovely Birthday cake.

In July our speaker was Patricia Wright, who told us the history of Buckingham Palace, from when it was a swamp until the present day. Sue Garling reported on her trip to Buckingham Palace to the Centenary Garden Party and Sandra read a report from our delegate at the Centenary AGM at the Albert Hall. Our next meeting will be in September and we have our centenary celebration on 16th September.
